Xbmc not showing networked mp3s

  • i have been following this thread:
    http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin....l=music (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=2;t=11960;hl=music)
and it hasn't helped me. *

this is my problem. *i upgraded to the april 11th build and now i cannot see my mp3s. *they are on my pc. *i have other shares on the pc and the xbox connects to those just fine. *however, when i go into music nothing is there. *when i try to scan it just says preparing forever. *here is a small blurb from my log file set to 0 in the .xml file. *i think it may show the problem towards the end. *i can post the whole thing if you need it, i also have my .xml file if you need that. *

i have tried almost everything in the other thread, but nothing is working. *i deleted my settings file, but i couldn't find a database file to delete. *any ideas?

  • check your albums location defined in xboxmediacenter.xml. i had this happen to me after i changed the albums location to a non-existant directory.

    e:\data\albums

but, i didnt have an e:\data directory. xbmc was unable to create the albums folder, or the database.

  • yeah it works now. it was a combination of things, first i deleted the database files in the e:\apps\xbmc\albums folder, then i could see the folders, but not access them. then i realized a permissions issue, so it all works now.

    thanks guys

  • i had that same exact problem, and that was the solution. though, that doesnt mean this is your problem. double check your albums location and confirm it exists in your filesystem.

  • well i don't remembering changing the settings for that but i will make sure i have that directory when i get home today. could that be why its just sitting there "preparing"

  • sorry, i meant file permissions on my win 2003 box, i didn't allow the xbox security permission to do anything on the mp3 folder, i allowed it to access it, but no security permissions. it all works good now.

  • file permissions? i didnt know that the xbox filesystem supported file permissions. i'm curious, how do you change them?

  • xbmc assumes the root path exists, and only creates the "last" dir in the path as necessary.

this is why the default is configured as a subdir off xbmc's install location ($home/albums). it always has to exist.

if you change it, it's your fault if it dont work.

  • but, i didnt have an e:\data directory. *xbmc was unable to create the albums folder, or the database.
shouldn't xbmc auto create the folder specified then? consider that a feature suggestion ;)
